The Orchard Combat Training Center is a premier joint combined arms training site located 18 miles south of Boise, Idaho. The 173,000-acre training center is located within the boundaries of the Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area and has been used by the Idaho National Guard and Army Reserve since 1953. Vast terrain, world class ranges and four-season climate contribute to this being an ideal location to prepare Brigade Combat Teams and other units for combat in a tough and realistic training environment.
The OCTC is dedicated to providing world-class training facilities for the war fighter through efficient, flexible and professional customer service. The Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area is public use Bureau of Land Management land used for recreational activities.
MISSION: Provide year-round customer service through administrative, engineering, logistical, training and operational support to assigned, attached, and transient or tenant units and joint forces activities for up two (2) brigade-sized elements. Expands and operates as a separate installation for US Forces Command to conduct mobilization and demobilization support activities for reserve component units. Supports individual and collective training for multiple brigades.
ORGANIZATIONAL READINESS TRAINING CENTER (ORTC): Organizational Readiness Training Center: Provides office and barracks space for training units. The ORTC features a Battalion Operations Building, Company Operations Building, Unit Maintenance Sheds, and Barracks space.
RANGES/MANEUVER AREA: Orchard Combat Training Center range facilities are focused on training for Armor and Stryker Brigade Combat teams. OCTC contains approximately 53,0000 acres of non-duded impact area and approximately 3,300 acres of duded impact area. Range facilities include small arms qualification ranges, grenade ranges, demolition ranges, live fire shoot house, combined arms collective training facility, multiple purpose training range capable of section gunnery, multi-purpose range complex-heavy capable of platoon gunnery and a digital air ground integration range. OCTC has 89,500 acres of maneuver area containing three land navigation courses, two engineer dig sites, three drop zones.
LOGISTICS:
RAILHEAD: OCTC railhead currently has four rail spurs for equipment download and upload and is currently in the process of expanding to eleven spurs.
CENTRAL VEHICLE WASH AREA: The Central Vehicle Wash Area has tracked and wheeled vehicle birdbaths, Hose island, office and latrine. BATTALION HEADQUARTERS BUILDINGS: The Battalion Building has open office area, offices rooms, conference room and classrooms Battalion Maintenance Buildings. They have office, two drive through bays, supply/ tool room, storage warehouse and cages. Company Maintenance Sheds Drive through bays, lockable rooms, tools, parts and three issue compounds.
DINING FACILITY: Can seat up to 330 personnel and has two serving lines, a full kitchen with large walk-in refrigerator and freezer, dry storage and a loading dock.
Company Admin Buildings – The company areas have five offices, a conference room, weapons vault with IDS, Supply cages and latrine.
