The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team is the state’s largest unit. The brigade is located in more than 20 Idaho communities and across four states: Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Oregon. The unit is one of five armored brigade combat teams in the National Guard and one of 16 in the United States Army. Since 2001, the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team has deployed twice to Iraq, completed National Training Center rotations and trained around the country and world.

1-148th Field Artillery Regiment
The 1-148th Field Artillery Regiment provides field artillery support to the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team. The regiment’s headquarters are located in Pocatello with units located in Eastern Idaho communities. Units are located in Blackfoot, Burley, Preston, Pocatello, Rexburg and St. Anthony.
1-163rd Combined Arms Battalion (Montana)
The 1-163rd Combined Arms Battalion is headquartered in Montana. The unit is one of three combined arms battalions in the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat team. The unit’s combat forces include mechanized and armored assets.
1-221st Cavalry Squadron (Nevada)
The 1-221st Cavalry Squadron is an armored reconnaissance squadron headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada.
116th Brigade Engineer Battalion
The 116th Brigade Engineer Battalion enables the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team with engineer, military intelligence and communication assets. The unit is headquartered in Twin Falls and has engineer units located in Gooding, Grangeville, Moscow, Mountain Home and Orofino. Its signal and military intelligence companies are located in Boise and its forward support company is located in Jerome.
145th Brigade Support Battalion
The 145th Brigade Support Battalion supports the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team’s execution of operations by providing logistic support. The unit is headquartered in Lewiston with companies located in Boise, Idaho Falls, Jerome, Post Falls and Rigby.
2-116th Cavalry Regiment
The 2-116th Cavalry Regiment is one of the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team’s three combined arms battalions. The CAB is headquartered in Caldwell with units in Emmett and Nampa.
3-116th Combined Arms Battalion (Oregon)
The 3-116th Combined Arms Battalion is located in Oregon. The unit is one of the three combined arms battalions in the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team. The unit’s combat forces include mechanized and armored assets.

Commander – Col. Jason Gracida
Col. Jason Gracida is the Brigade Commander of the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in Boise, Idaho. He commands a Brigade across 4 states including Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Nevada. Gracida has served in the military since 1992, earning his commission as an officer in 2002. Most recently, Gracida served as director of operations for the Idaho Army National Guard. He previously served as the 116th CBCT’s executive officer from 2020 through 2023 and deployed with the brigade in 2004 and 2010. See Gracida’s biography here.
